About The Position

The Texas Institute for Electronics (TIE) is seeking a Senior Workforce Development Engineering Advisor to support the development and delivery of semiconductor workforce training programs. This role will report to TIE’s Director of Workforce Development and will serve as a bridge between industry needs and academic training, ensuring that engineering lab courses, curriculum, and instructional materials align with evolving workforce demands. The ideal candidate will bring deep semiconductor industry experience, hands-on instructional expertise, and a passion for workforce development. TIE is a University of Texas at Austin-supported semiconductor consortium focused on developing and executing a 3D Heterogenous Integration manufacturing technology roadmap and providing pilot manufacturing capabilities. With significant funding from the US DoD and the state of Texas, TIE is at the forefront of creating cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes. Located in Austin, Texas, TIE embodies the city's innovative spirit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor fabrication, process engineering, equipment maintenance, or a related area.
  • Experience teaching or training in an academic or industry setting.
  • Strong knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes, including lithography, etching, deposition, and metrology.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage a variety of audiences, from students to industry executives.
  • Eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, or a related technical field.
  • More than 5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor fabrication, process engineering, equipment maintenance, or a related area.
  • Experience collaborating with universities, community colleges, or workforce training programs.
  • Familiarity with workforce development initiatives, industry credentialing, or skills-based education.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and hands-on lab development.
  • Experience with grant writing, program evaluation, or industry-funded workforce initiatives.
  • Experiencing in creating curriculum or courses in the semiconductor science/engineering fields.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop hands-on engineering labs, course modules, and instructional materials for university, community college, and K-12 audiences.
  • Work with faculty, instructional designers, and industry partners to ensure curriculum aligns with current semiconductor manufacturing and design practices.
  • Develop and refine competency-based assessments to ensure training effectiveness.
  • Support the creation of stackable credentials, certificates, and apprenticeship models for semiconductor career pathways.
  • Guide students through hands-on semiconductor manufacturing and testing processes, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  • Develop and deliver technical workshops and training modules for university students, community college learners, and K-12 outreach programs.
  • Contribute to grant proposals, workforce development initiatives, and reports for state and federal funding opportunities.
  • Measure and evaluate program effectiveness, adjusting training content as needed.
  • Support scaling efforts to expand semiconductor workforce training across Texas and beyond.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
