The Senior Wireless Reverse Engineer joins a multidisciplinary team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) that reverse engineers wireless communications protocols, devices, and systems to support signals intelligence, wireless cyber access, and defensive capabilities. The role combines wireless, software, firmware, embedded-system, and protocol reverse engineering to understand complex systems from their over-the-air behavior through their underlying implementations. The position leads reverse-engineering efforts involving unknown, undocumented, or partially documented wireless systems; analyzes software, firmware, embedded implementations, communications protocols, and over-the-air behavior; and uses laboratory tools and experimental techniques to test and validate findings. The Senior Wireless Reverse Engineer also develops software tools and automated analysis workflows, provides technical leadership and mentorship, identifies technical opportunities, and communicates results to sponsors and the technical community. APL describes its workplace as a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that encourages creativity, differing perspectives, professional growth, and strong connections among teammates. Its campus is in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
