About The Position

Boston College is seeking to fill two Senior Windows Systems Administrator positions. These roles are crucial for maintaining and enhancing BC’s Active Directory and server environment, with a strong emphasis on security. The positions will also focus on automation to manage increasing server and application complexity, adopting a DevOps approach and integrating Windows and Unix/Linux servers. The Windows group is responsible for the entire lifecycle of Microsoft Windows Servers, from building and maintaining to retiring them. While the primary focus is Windows, Linux experience is desirable due to the need for cross-platform automation and scripting. This is an onsite position with some remote flexibility at the discretion of management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
  • Strong working knowledge of VMWare management
  • Expert level knowledge of Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025
  • Experience with infrastructure automation including tools such as Ansible and Python
  • Advanced PowerShell/PowerCLI experience applicable with AD Windows and VMWare
  • Familiar with Container based solutions management (Podman, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with Identity Management (Active Directory, SAML, ADFS, OAUTH)
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring and reporting tools such as Splunk and Zabbix
  • Able to follow ITIL, SAS115 controls, HIPAA and PCI requirements
  • Familiar with current storage management technologies
  • Scripting/Coding skills as it relates to producing modular, reusable, clean maintainable code that drives the infrastructure
  • Automation tool experience like Packer and Jenkins for virtual server automation
  • Source code control experience with GITHub and CI/CD processes
  • Excellent communication, presentation and documentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Optionally Red Hat Linux Operating Systems
  • Linux experience
  • Experience with Cloud Solution Providers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain BC’s Active Directory and server environment with security as the top priority.
  • Follow Best Practices and Change Control procedures.
  • Automate tasks to manage growing complexity and increasing numbers of servers and applications.
  • Integrate Windows and Unix/Linux servers using a DevOps approach.
  • Manage the entire life cycle of Microsoft Windows Servers in the data center, including building, maintaining/patching, and retiring servers.
  • Assist with both Linux and Windows server automated deployments and various scripting needs.
  • Design an Active Directory environment for an enterprise, including global and group policies, OUs, and delegation of authority.
  • Write custom scripts and create Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
  • Perform system patching and hardware maintenance.
  • Manage Antivirus for servers.
  • Manage SSL certificate management.
  • Manage Windows and MS SQL clustering.
  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises.
  • Provide off-hours support and participate in on-call coverage rotation.
