Senior Wetland Scientist

Lynker CorporationBoulder, CO
$90,000 - $120,000Hybrid

About The Position

Lynker Corporation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Wetland Scientist to join their growing team. This role involves producing, improving, and maintaining wetland maps at large scales using cloud-native geospatial tools and workflows. The scientist will implement and adapt wetland modeling, integrate various data sources like LiDAR, imagery, and soils, and design validation and quality control processes. Communication of methods and results, along with collaboration with other teams, is also a key part of the position.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in wetland science, ecology, geography, environmental or earth science, hydrology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Roughly 5+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD plus a few years of relevant work.
  • Demonstrated experience mapping wetlands, land cover, or comparable features at large spatial scale.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native geospatial tooling, formats, and workflows.
  • Experience implementing or adapting geospatial or ecological models (wetland potential, habitat, boundary and extent, or comparable).
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R for geospatial analysis, with sound coding and reproducibility practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with wetland potential or probability modeling and with wetland delineation, boundary, and extent methods.
  • Experience applying machine learning to land-cover or wetland classification.
  • Familiarity with national wetland, hydrography, soils, and elevation datasets, and with remote-sensing inputs.
  • Experience with distributed or parallel processing for large-area geospatial work (e.g., cloud batch, Dask, or Google Earth Engine).
  • A record of scientific publication or successful proposal work.
  • Colorado Front Range presence for periodic in-person collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, improve, and maintain versioned wetland maps across large regional to national extents.
  • Build and run mapping and modeling workflows using cloud-native geospatial tools, formats, and storage.
  • Implement, adapt, and improve existing and new models for wetland potential and for wetland boundary and extent.
  • Integrate LiDAR-derived elevation, hydrology, imagery, soils, and existing wetland inventories into reproducible modeling pipelines.
  • Design validation against reference data, quantify uncertainty, and quality-control wetland maps for accuracy and consistency.
  • Document methods and results, contribute to reports and proposals, and partner with the Platform, Modeling, and Applications teams.
