About The Position

The Web Design Engineer leads the construction of our marketing website, blending visual design and front-end engineering to create production-ready web experiences that are semantically correct, accessible, performant, and visually refined. This role collaborates with designers, content strategists, demand generation, and our developer to elevate everything we release on absorblms.com, oversees implementation of components and pages in our Webflow-based stack, and shapes the architecture and reusable patterns for the team. Unlike traditional IDE-only front-end roles, most production work is done in Webflow's visual development environment, requiring strong skills in HTML, CSS, DOM structure, responsive design, accessibility, browser performance, and client-side behavior. The ideal candidate is a browser-native web design engineer who cares about the quality of what ships.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience building production web interfaces at the intersection of design and front-end engineering.
  • Deep proficiency in semantic HTML and modern CSS, including grid, flexbox, custom properties, container queries, logical properties, and the full selector vocabulary.
  • Strong visual eye, with the ability to translate Figma designs faithfully and to identify and refine issues with spacing, type, hierarchy, alignment, imagery, interaction states, and responsive behavior.
  • Working proficiency in JavaScript, including the ability to author Web Components and small interactive modules without a framework.
  • Practical understanding of web accessibility (WCAG), implemented as a matter of craft rather than checklist.
  • Strong understanding of Core Web Vitals and front-end performance, including image optimization, resource prioritization, layout stability, and the critical rendering path.
  • Comfort working in visual web authoring tools (e.g., Webflow) in addition to code editors, with a pragmatic view of choosing the right tool for the job.
  • Fluency in browser DevTools for layout, performance, accessibility, and network debugging.
  • Familiarity with Figma as a source of truth for design handoff.
  • Strong understanding of SEO-relevant implementation considerations, including semantic structure, metadata, heading hierarchy, crawlable content, and content visibility.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across design, engineering, content, and marketing functions.
  • Ability to challenge implementation approaches constructively and explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Implement marketing website components, layouts, and pages to a high standard of HTML semantics, CSS quality, accessibility, performance, and visual polish.
  • Translate Figma designs into production web output, partnering with designers to refine responsive behavior, spacing, type, hierarchy, motion, and interaction details before and during implementation.
  • Own the quality bar for production web output, including reviewing work produced by other team members and helping establish standards, patterns, and reusable components.
  • Build custom interactive components – including Web Components and vanilla JavaScript modules – where the intersection of design craft and engineering is required.
  • Implement simple motion and animation as part of component and page work (e.g., CSS transitions, menu fade-ins, hover and focus states, lightweight interactions).
  • Contribute to our Next.js applications and shared component library (via Webflow DevLink) to keep design and behavior consistent across the marketing site and custom web apps.
  • Diagnose and resolve front-end issues using browser DevTools, including layout, rendering, performance, accessibility, and cross-browser problems.
  • Optimize Core Web Vitals and page load performance, including responsive image strategies, resource hints, render-blocking mitigation, script loading, and minimizing layout shift.
  • Implement accessibility best practices, including semantic HTML, heading structure, focus management, keyboard interaction, reduced-motion considerations, and appropriate ARIA usage.
  • Implement and QA A/B tests, personalization experiences, and conversion optimization experiments in partnership with marketing stakeholders.
  • Help reduce fragile one-off implementations by creating durable, reusable patterns and clear standards across components, layouts, and interactions.
  • Partner with the Content and Demand Gen teams as a technical resource for advanced layout, component, and interaction questions.
  • Contribute to the architecture and reusable patterns that underpin the marketing stack, including component design, CSS variable systems, and interaction patterns.
  • Make pragmatic trade-off decisions that balance design intent, engineering quality, timeline, and business impact.
