About The Position

Northern Trust is seeking a Senior Wealth Strategist for their Wealth Management division. This is a key business development sales role focused on cultivating new relationships with individuals, families, non-profit institutions, and other entities. The role involves identifying prospective clients, showcasing Northern Trust's capabilities, and converting prospects into clients. The Senior Wealth Strategist will also manage the transition of new clients to appropriate internal teams and act as a local brand ambassador, engaging with civic and philanthropic organizations. The position requires an entrepreneurial spirit, a motivation to close new business, and strong collaboration and communication skills to develop and implement a business development strategy for a targeted new client base, particularly within the ultra-high net worth (UHNW) client space. A long-term consultative approach is expected, advising clients on estate planning, wealth transfer, and tax planning strategies, and serving as their liaison to Northern Trust. Cultivating internal and external networks is crucial for identifying new client relationships and demonstrating Northern Trust's full capabilities.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of sales and relationship management experience, preferably working with wealth management clients.
  • A strong network of Centers of Influence (COIs) for ultra-high net worth individuals and families, including attorneys, estate planning professionals, and CPAs (or a plan to build one).
  • Knowledge of fiduciary capabilities and services (e.g., personal trusts, living trusts, wills, investment management, custody, financial consulting, estate and tax planning), including fee structures and documentation.
  • Ability to profile a client’s financial landscape and needs to determine how best to advise and deliver solutions across Northern Trust's capabilities.
  • Willingness to spend the time understanding both the client and what Northern Trust can offer.
  • Series 7 and 63 licenses are required.
  • Strong analytical and sales skills to connect individual client asset situations to specific capabilities and services.
  • Strong communication skills to understand clients’ needs and respond with appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all of Northern Trust to grow the business.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee new client development, solutions sales strategy, and execution of goals-driven wealth management planning.
  • Identify prospective clients, share Northern Trust capabilities in conversations and meetings, and convert prospects to clients.
  • Manage the transition of ongoing client contact and account management to appropriate teams within Northern Trust.
  • Act as a local brand ambassador, actively engaging as a leader for local civic and philanthropic organizations.
  • Create and implement a business development strategy and approach for a targeted new client base.
  • Work with ultra-high net worth (UHNW) individuals, families, and businesses to cultivate new investment management relationships.
  • Share and support the goals-driven wealth management approach to prospective and current clients to develop new business.
  • Take a long-term consultative approach with clients on the benefits of estate planning services, utilizing knowledge of wealth transfer and tax planning strategies.
  • Check in regularly with clients and act as their liaison to the rest of Northern Trust as their needs evolve.
  • Cultivate internal and external personal and professional networks to identify new client relationships and showcase Northern Trust's capabilities and services.
  • Look for opportunities and connections in communities, networks, and philanthropic organizations.
  • Work with a full team of experts to understand the needs of potential clients and showcase how Northern Trust can help them achieve their goals.
