About The Position

WSP is seeking a Senior Vice President, Transportation Planning (Part-Time) for its New York, NY office. This role will provide regional and/or multi-sector leadership to ensure transportation planning subject matter expertise (SME), technical deliverables, and programs are delivered with a high level of quality. The position is responsible for SME innovation and administration, ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal Agency regulations, and providing strategic direction for current and future planning challenges within a large-scale business organization.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 15+ years of Transportation Planning experience in a corporate environment.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant planning practices, approval processes, zoning laws, permitting requirements, notification and compliance practices, applicable Local / State / Federal regulatory framework and the business impact upon the organization.
• Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple large-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices for a line(s) of business.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a high-pressure work environment.
• Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.
• Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
• Advanced knowledge and proficiency with office automation/communication software, technology, and tools used in the corporate environment.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of the planning discipline’s project and program involvement within the organization.
• Lead complex and large-scale transportation planning projects, ensuring team members understand their tasks and deadlines, preparing and overseeing project budgets, monitoring events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring performance and profitability, and supervising subcontractors and employees.
• Drive compliance and accountability with applicable Federal, State, and Local planning practices, approval processes, zoning laws, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the internal vision and mission for the planning discipline, ensuring alignment with business operations strategy and continuous improvement of certifications, accreditations, and client value ratings.
• Lead planning discipline meetings and continuing educational opportunities, providing updates and recommendations to staff to foster innovation, development, and quality project delivery.
• Provide leadership for proposals and project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics for the planning discipline.
• Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents for complex projects and initiatives, to produce sound planning and regulatory conclusions that minimize impacts to the community, population, local economy, and environment.
• Provide leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to high-level strategic advice to clients.
• Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for transportation planning, permitting, approval, and impact assessment services, including identifying business development opportunities and cross-selling WSP capabilities.
• Remain current in transportation planning subject matter, practices, regulations, and techniques.
• Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide "trusted advisor" service and Future-Ready solutions for clients.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
