About The Position

Aon is looking for a Senior Vice President, Professional Services Practice in our New York, NY or Chicago, IL office location. Aon’s Professional Services Practice (PSP) in the U.S. provides risk advisory and insurance services to prestigious professional service firm clients. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, conscientious, and career-minded individual to join our Lawyers’ Professional Services practice in the United States. This Senior Vice President’s (SVP) role involves managerial, financial, corporate governance, risk management, and business development responsibilities exclusively on behalf of Aon client PilotLegis RPG, as its Executive Director. Requirements

  • JD required
  • 10+ years of relevant law firm experience in the area of risk management.
  • Experience with Lawyers Professional Liability (LPL) underwriting, either on the law firm or insurer side
  • Experience with Lawyers Professional Liability (LPL) claims management, either on the law firm or insurer side
  • Strong research and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer/technology skills; knowledge of software applications commonly used by law firms is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the legal industry; law firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the insurance industry, especially in the area of professional liability, is a plus.
  • Frequent domestic travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PSP client service team members who assist in providing insurance broking and related advisory services for the insurance needs of PilotLegis’ law firm members.
  • Maintain corporate regulatory filings and various risk purchasing group registrations and other filing requirements on behalf of PilotLegis to ensure compliance with various federal and state laws.
  • Maintain appropriate business and other insurance for PilotLegis as an organization.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual income, expense and capital budgets, financial plans and forecasts.
  • Ensure that accurate records are in order of all financial transactions to make a detailed report to the Board and officers, as requested.
  • Oversee the preparation of regular management reports analyzing the activities of PilotLegis against prior years and budgeted standards to ensure that sound management practices are in place to provide a solid financial base for the organization.
  • Oversee the calculation, invoicing, and collecting, in a timely fashion, of annual Marketing Services Agreement payments, underwriter Risk Management Fund payments, and annual membership assessment fees, if any, on behalf of PilotLegis.
  • Plan and coordinate PilotLegis’ strategic‑planning process.
  • Ensure that PilotLegis’ committees are properly staffed, or directing others to do so, and serving ex‑officio on the PilotLegis Board and other committees of the Board.
  • Assist PilotLegis’ committees and the Board by performing certain administrative functions, including gathering such information for meetings as needed, coordinating the preparation and distribution of meeting agendas and related materials in advance of each meeting, and reviewing and distributing minutes.
  • Serve as a liaison between PilotLegis member firms and PilotLegis Underwriters, playing a key role in broker and underwriter negotiations, and reporting on these negotiations to the PilotLegis executive team and Board.
  • Research and evaluate trends in the insurance industry, including risk management and cost containment strategies, reporting to the PilotLegis committees and/or Board on the findings.
  • Be responsible for the risk management review process of PilotLegis prospects including: Conducting risk assessments and preparing risk assessment reports; and Conferring with PilotLegis’ Membership & Standards Committee to determine whether a prospect qualifies for membership.
  • Supervise the cyclical risk review process of PilotLegis members including: Conducting assessments and preparing review reports (or causing others to conduct assessments and prepare review reports); and Ensuring all such reports are reviewed by the Membership & Standards Committee.
  • Provide ongoing member and prospect education by: Assisting the Risk Management Committee in developing, organizing, and marketing program content and faculty for annual conferences and midyear programs; Growing PilotU by developing, marketing, and coordinating on-site loss prevention, practice management, and ethics courses to current members; and Maintaining a list of speakers and potential authors for continuing risk management education.
  • Serve as liaison between PilotLegis’ Claims Management Committee and other committees to identify trends and create responsive education initiatives.
  • Grow content on and increase traffic to PilotLegis’ website.
  • Coordinate the updating of marketing materials, including the design, publication and distribution to various publications targeting legal audiences.
  • Drive business development in coordination with PSP team including: Working closely with the Aon sales team and ensuring that sales efforts are maintained to meet PilotLegis production goals for new membership; Developing database of target firms and plan strategies to recruit firms into PilotLegis; and researching and developing new products and programs to support member retention and attract new members.
