About The Position

Serves as the enterprise physician executive leader for Huntington Health, providing strategic leadership for clinical quality, patient safety, medical staff affairs, physician engagement, and physician alignment across the health system. The CMO is a key member of the executive leadership team, offering strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for medical staff affairs, quality and safety, physician engagement, and system-wide clinical performance. The CMO partners closely with the President, Medical Executive Committee, physician leaders, and senior administrative colleagues to advance Huntington Health’s commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and community-based care. The CMO champions a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, strengthening Huntington Health’s reputation as a premier provider. The CMO ensures high standards of clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based care, fostering strong partnerships with physicians, advanced practice providers, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate will have executive-level experience in a complex healthcare delivery system with a proven ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert, a change agent, and a steward of Huntington’s mission, vision, and values, possessing strong strategic, operational, and analytical skills focused on innovation, clinical quality/safety outcomes, medical staff integration, and creating a "best in class" workplace experience.

Requirements

  • M.D. Medical Doctor or a D.O., a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive physician leadership experience, including senior medical executive roles within a health system or academic medical center.
  • Proven experience in an academic medical center or high-performing community health system.
  • Demonstrated success leading quality improvement and physician engagement initiatives.
  • Current Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) unrestricted licensure issued by the Medical Board of California.
  • Deep understanding of clinical quality, patient safety, and healthcare regulatory standards.
  • Proven ability to lead physicians and clinical leaders in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Proven ability to align diverse physician constituencies around shared goals.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, influence, and executive presence.
  • Ability to partner effectively with operational, financial, and administrative leaders.
  • Strong client service orientation, responsiveness, and accessibility by key stakeholders.
  • Unquestioned integrity and moral character.
  • Highly effective communicator: presence, stature, and experience to represent the organization to a variety of audiences.
