We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Application Support Manager / Senior Application Support Engineer to join our team. This role is located in Pittsburgh.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10-12 years of related experience required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
  • Strong experience providing production support for enterprise applications across distributed and mainframe environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience supporting Java-based applications and mainframe-based applications.
  • Proven experience in leadership and people management, including managing teams of 20–25 people in a production support or operations environment.
  • Experience providing support for AI/ML applications, proactively identifying and resolving issues, automating operational tasks, conducting root cause analysis, and collaborating with engineering teams to improve system resilience, scalability, and performance.
  • Demonstrated experience automating manual support or operational tasks using AI, scripting, or workflow automation tools.
  • Solid hands-on experience with one or more enterprise databases, including Oracle, MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience supporting messaging technologies such as Kafka and IBM MQ.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple platforms.
  • Experience in incident management, problem management, root cause analysis, and production support processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams, senior leadership, and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and commitment to supporting critical systems during weekends and off-hours when necessary.
  • Experience in financial services or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes, service management tools, and production monitoring solutions.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments, scripting, application performance monitoring tools, and enterprise schedulers/automation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of SRE principles, including monitoring, alerting, automation, reliability, availability, and performance optimization.
  • Understanding of distributed system architecture, integration patterns, and enterprise production support models.

Responsibilities

  • Provide L2/L3 production support leadership for enterprise applications across mainframe and distributed platforms.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 20–25 application support engineers, ensuring high performance, accountability, and professional development.
  • Monitor application and platform health, investigate incidents, and drive timely resolution of production issues.
  • Perform and oversee root cause analysis for application, database, messaging, and infrastructure-related issues.
  • Support and troubleshoot application integrations across mainframe, distributed, and hybrid systems.
  • Work closely with development, infrastructure, database, SRE, and business teams to resolve incidents and improve platform stability and resilience.
  • Analyze logs, application behavior, and system performance to identify issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support database-related troubleshooting across Oracle, MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL environments.
  • Troubleshoot and support messaging/integration platforms, including Kafka and IBM MQ.
  • Drive SRE practices, including observability, monitoring, alerting, reliability engineering, automation, and continuous service improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual operational tasks, including the use of AI and intelligent automation to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance support processes.
  • Participate in release support, deployment validation, capacity planning, and post-implementation monitoring.
  • Contribute to operational readiness, knowledge documentation, runbooks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide on-call leadership and demonstrate willingness to support weekends and off-hours as business needs require.
