Senior UX Designer

Shaker Recruitment MarketingOak Park, IL
$115,000 - $135,000

About The Position

Shaker Recruitment Marketing is seeking a Senior UX Designer to support the design and delivery of Career Websites across a range of platforms and custom solutions. Our Creative team is growing, and this role is being added to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, candidate-focused digital experiences. In this role, you will execute UX workstreams across the full project lifecycle — from discovery through launch. You will own the translation of employer brand direction into clear, intuitive site experiences, working in Figma to build scalable, component-based systems that support responsive design, consistency, and efficient production across CMS and career website platform environments and custom builds. You will work closely with the Creative Director, copywriters, developers, and project managers to bring site structure, content hierarchy, and user experience to life — contributing your UX expertise throughout the process and helping ensure designs translate effectively into build environments. This role is best suited for a designer who is both creative and structured — someone who thinks in systems, executes with precision, and can operate within constraints without sacrificing quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience in web, UX, or digital design
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating responsive, system-based web design across website projects
  • Agency experience strongly preferred — you are comfortable navigating multiple clients and timelines
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma including auto layout, components, variants, design tokens, and design systems
  • Experience designing responsive layouts and scalable systems, not just static pages
  • Experience designing within CMS or platform environments
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and responsive design best practices
  • Ability to contribute UX thinking to discovery, including sitemaps, wireframes, and information architecture
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS sufficient to communicate technical constraints with developers
  • Strong communicator who can clearly explain design decisions to creative peers, developers, and clients
  • Highly organized and self-directed; able to manage competing priorities across multiple projects
  • Collaborative and receptive to direction — you work well within a creative team structure and incorporate feedback effectively
  • Curious and opinionated about digital experiences with a mindset oriented toward continuous improvement
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to operate within constraints without sacrificing quality

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with recruitment marketing, employer branding, or career site platforms
  • Experience with content strategy, copywriting collaboration, or SEO considerations for web
  • Exposure to motion design or micro-interaction prototyping
  • Knowledge of AI-assisted design tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly) for concept exploration

Responsibilities

  • Execute the design of Career Websites from discovery through launch across career website platforms and custom builds
  • Translate employer brand direction into intuitive, candidate-focused career website experiences that drive engagement and conversion
  • Create sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that balance storytelling, usability, and platform constraints
  • Support implementation within career website platforms, ensuring designs translate effectively into build environments
  • Design within CMS and platform constraints while maintaining a high standard of visual quality and UX
  • Participate in discovery sessions alongside creative directors, contributing UX thinking to shape site structure, content hierarchy, and user experience approach
  • Translate research findings into personas, journey maps, information architecture, and wireframes in support of the agreed creative direction
  • Apply heuristic evaluation and accessibility reviews to strengthen the quality of delivered experiences
  • Design responsive layouts in Figma using scalable components, auto layout, and repeatable systems
  • Build and maintain design systems that support speed, consistency, and reuse across Career Website projects
  • Contribute to the evolution of UX patterns, interaction standards, and documentation in alignment with the Creative Director's frameworks
  • Apply and maintain design processes, templates, and component libraries to improve efficiency and quality
  • Prepare thorough developer-ready specifications and annotations in Figma
  • Partner with front-end developers during implementation to ensure design fidelity across responsive states and edge cases
  • Communicate interaction states, responsive behavior, and platform-specific constraints clearly in handoff documentation
  • Present design concepts and articulate creative rationale to internal- and client-facing audiences alongside creative directors and team members
  • Ensure accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) are met across all designs, including responsive behavior, contrast, and usability best practices
  • Provide peer-level feedback and guidance to creative team members, as needed
  • Partner with creative team leaders to develop repeatable processes for our Career Websites practice
  • Partner with project managers to meet timelines and deliverables
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure design is structured for flexible, modular content systems
