About The Position

IntePros Federal is seeking two Senior UNIX System Engineers for an onsite role in Radford, VA. This position supports a mixed and growing environment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Enterprise Linux, and Solaris UNIX systems. The Senior UNIX System Engineer will work with the existing UNIX team to manage, maintain, deploy, troubleshoot, harden, and support servers across a complex customer environment. In this role, you will plan, execute, and implement new system hardware and software; create and maintain technical instructions, operating procedures, and policies; monitor and tune system performance; and report on the overall security and operational status of the environment. You will also recommend enterprise improvements, manage new software and hardware integrations, provide utilization reporting, and support the lifecycle of vendor equipment in the datacenter, including firmware version control and periodic preventive maintenance.

Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Five or more years of experience as a UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator or IT Engineer, including experience automating assigned tasks.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Enterprise Linux, and/or Solaris UNIX environments.
  • Three or more years of experience in patch management, including applying security updates through YUM and RPM.
  • Three or more years of experience working in complex network environments, including VLANs and troubleshooting with tools such as ifconfig, netstat, ssh, and telnet.
  • Experience hardening systems using firewalls, iptables, hosts, and related security controls.
  • Three or more years of experience managing a large pool of local users through the command line.
  • Three or more years of experience creating, maintaining, and following SOPs for repeatable processes, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution.
  • Three or more years of experience configuring and maintaining DNS, SFTP, SMTP, and NTP services.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • CompTIA Security+ required.
  • Computing Environment certification, such as Red Hat, required; may be waived for up to 30 days after project join date.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent years of experience.
  • Three or more years of experience with SELinux, including basic and advanced management and configuration.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity patch management and Security Technical Implementation Guides, Security Requirement Guides, Risk Management Framework activities, Security Control Assessor-Validator activities, and Cyber Operational Readiness Assessments.
  • Experience deploying large-scale hardware and software enhancements or upgrades for an organization with widely distributed geographic sites.
  • Experience with current and emerging network and infrastructure management technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Harden UNIX/Linux systems using firewalls, iptables, host-based controls, and other applicable security practices.
  • Perform patch management and apply security updates using YUM and RPM.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot key services including DNS, SFTP, SMTP, and NTP.
  • Support complex network environments using tools such as ifconfig, netstat, ssh, and telnet.
  • Manage large pools of local users through the command line.
  • Provide utilization reports using existing tools to identify issues, recommend corrective actions, and improve system efficiency.
  • Support lifecycle management of vendor equipment in the datacenter, including firmware version control and periodic preventive maintenance.
  • Recommend, demonstrate, and implement technologies that expand, upgrade, and improve the current environment.
