About the role Exciting opportunities have arisen for Senior UNIX Engineers to provide ongoing professional implementation within the Department of Defence Centralised Processing (CP) Project team.

Requirements

  • Experienced Unix Technical Support Engineer specifically with exposure to hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting in an enterprise environment.
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude and ability to provide leadership and technical support to a team of professionals
  • Experience with Unix technologies, specifically Solaris, AIX and RHEL
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Applicants must have an existing NV1 or NV2 security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in supporting Oracle Hardware e.g Oracle SuperCluster and T8 server systems highly regarded
  • Experience with Satellite, Ansible and Nagios would be of benefit

Responsibilities

  • Define, install and maintain midrange UNIX servers
  • Monitor systems in line with pre-defined operational controls, processes and requirements
  • Suggest and/or implement solutions to resolve problems and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Supports the coordination of the processing environment and software distribution, upgrades and maintenance
  • Administer central and/or distributed computer systems
  • Provide third level technical support for complex problems
  • Be available for on call roster, cyclic maintenance, DR, high severity issue resolution periodically as part of the defined support model
  • Implement system changes
  • Run and distribute defined system management reports
  • Accountable for junior staff workload and completion of delegated tasks
