The Senior Underwriter is a high-ownership underwriting professional responsible for complex risk assessment, pricing, negotiation, and portfolio management. The role serves as a trusted business partner, provides technical guidance to peers, supports modernization initiatives, and contributes to profitable growth through disciplined underwriting decisions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of stop loss underwriting experience, with a proven track record of sound risk assessment and decision-making
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex risk portfolios and lead broker negotiations to favorable outcomes
• Experience mentoring team members and reviewing their work, providing constructive feedback that supports professional growth
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability, paired with clear, confident communication across all levels of an organization

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage complex, strategic stop loss and level-funded opportunities, balancing risk appetite with competitive positioning to drive profitable growth.
• Independently develop, present, and defend underwriting recommendations using sound risk analysis and market insight to support sound decision-making.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, actuarial, operations, and leadership to structure and close complex cases.
• Mentor and develop junior underwriters, strengthening team technical proficiency and decision-making capabilities.
• Uphold underwriting governance, consistency, and audit readiness across the book of business.
• Drive reporting, process modernization, and workflow improvement initiatives that increase efficiency and accuracy.
• Monitor portfolio performance, identifying emerging trends, risks, and opportunities to drive strategy.
• Apply independent judgment within established governance and delegated underwriting authority to balance risk, service, and profitability.
