About The Position

The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we’d love for you to be a part of it as our Senior Underwriter. We’re looking for a Senior Underwriter to support our continued growth and profitability. In this role, you’ll underwrite complex homeowners risks, make independent decisions within authority, and manage a production‑based book of business while maintaining strong agent relationships and service standards. Senior Underwriters serve as trusted subject‑matter experts, mentors to peers, and key partners to underwriting leadership, product, and technology teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of personal lines homeowners or property underwriting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Proven success in production‑based underwriting and portfolio growth through agent distribution channels.
  • Recognized underwriting subject‑matter expertise with strong knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
  • Experience working within or supporting straight‑through processing (STP) and automated underwriting environments.
  • Ability to independently manage a high‑volume workflow with strong attention to quality and compliance.
  • Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and professional judgment skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship‑building, collaboration, and time‑management skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, remote environment.

  • Experience working with large or high‑volume agency partners.
  • Experience supporting or leading carrier book roll initiatives.
  • Project management experience supporting underwriting, operational, or system‑related initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in early book roll intake and planning discussions with underwriting and other cross-functional leadership.
  • Review and assess incoming book roll portfolio opportunities
  • Understand state mix and regulatory complexity, loss experience, and overall risk quality
  • Evaluate alignment between the incoming book and existing underwriting guidelines, appetite, and pricing strategy.
  • Support the refinement or creation of temporary or permanent underwriting rules to accommodate the book roll, where appropriate
  • Partner with product and compliance teams
  • Collaborate with underwriting leadership, technology, and product to build and evaluate straight-through processing as related to the book roll process
  • Support configuration and validation of eligibility rules, rating logic and workflow routing
  • Participate in testing and Q/A efforts
  • Develop a process for renewals, endorsements and all book roll related processes
  • Underwrite complex new and renewal business for a book roll portfolio, including eligibility evaluation, quoting, declining, and non‑renewals.
  • Develop and implement a Q/ A process for the book roll process
  • Execute production‑based underwriting in a high‑volume environment while meeting or exceeding productivity, quality, and service‑level standards.
  • Apply judgment within straight through processing (STP) and automated underwriting frameworks; identify opportunities to improve risk selection and workflow efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agent partners, including large and high‑volume distribution channels.
  • Mentor and support other underwriters; participate in agent training and education sessions as needed.
  • Deliver a consistently strong customer and agent experience aligned with Porch values.
