About The Position

The Senior Underwriter will develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and serve as a specialized technical expert for Middle Market P&C Accounts. This will be a hybrid position in Charlotte, NC with a minimum of 20% travel for broker/production needs. Requirements

  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to MM P&C.
  • Analyze current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs.
  • Design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings.
  • Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.
  • Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority.
  • Ability to effectively absorb information from various sources, then analyze, study or examine data in detail, and draw appropriate conclusions.
  • Use general office application tools e.g. Power Point, Excel, Word.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriting experience.
  • Middle Market experience is preferred.
  • Recognized established relationships with brokers at peer group level and within market.
  • Experience with General Liability, Umbrella, Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, and/or Workers Compensation.
  • Good understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
  • Undergraduate degree required.

Nice To Haves

  • Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Completion of professional insurance qualification (e.g. CPCU) is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned broker portfolio of accounts to achieve efficient returns of profitability and growth.
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets.
  • Ensure placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance prior to policy inception.
  • Proactively develop relationships with brokers and agents assigned within the territory to either pursue new business acquisition and/or large renewal retention.
  • Acquisition of new business and retention of existing business including client and broker negotiations.
  • Manage complex referrals from underwriters and spokes and re-underwrite complex business as appropriate.
  • Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g. MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations.
  • Handle market facing broker relationships with ability to travel a minimum of 20%.
