About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriter, who is responsible for managing and underwriting a Middle Market Technology book of business. This role involves analyzing agency books, applying underwriting guidelines, and underwriting complex business with limited support. The position also includes agency management, creating and executing strategies for new and renewal accounts, and acting as a trusted advisor to brokers and agents. Success in this role requires building strong relationships with agents and brokers, managing the sales process, and developing cross-sell and up-sell opportunities. Requirements

  • 3+ years of P&C Middle Market or Technology Carrier production underwriting experience is required
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.

  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • E&O underwriting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and Underwrites a Middle Market Technology book of business
  • Analyzes agency book on quarter-to-quarter basis for potential action
  • Expertly applies all applicable Underwriting guidelines when making decisions
  • Capable of underwriting highly complex business and will require limited support from senior underwriters and infrequent referral activity to complete quotes
  • Has thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and governance
  • Agency Management which includes creating, driving and execution of strategies for new and/or renewal accounts (prospective book management, executes on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial and agency sales plans, etc.)
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and solution provider to Brokers and Agents
  • Quarterback the sales and underwriting process by building exceptionally strong and lasting relationships with agents and brokers, ensuring that The Hartford is the carrier of choice.
  • Effective account stewardship by managing the sales process from strategic planning to operational excellence and developing cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across the team.
