About The Position

The Senior Underwriter administers the underwriting, servicing of renewal accounts for agents and producers assigned within the territory in compliance with company underwriting, authority, and pricing standards. Maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust’s mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization. We are open to candidates with backgrounds in either renewal or new business. Whether your experience is focused on managing and growing established books or driving new business development, we value transferable underwriting and relationship‑management skills and are open to varied career paths into this role.

Requirements

  • CPCU or CIC designation preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time within the assigned territory and to the Home Office as required
  • Demonstrated experience with and expert technical knowledge of workers compensation insurance coverage and risk selection, methods and pricing.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data and make an informed, calculated risk decision

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of commercial line property and casualty experience
  • Preferred experience underwriting multiline P&C coverage including property, casualty, automobile, and umbrella insurance coverage.
  • Ability to make sound contributions to tactical and strategic planning
  • Ability to train, coach and mentor individuals of various backgrounds within area of expertise

Responsibilities

  • Quickly and effectively make underwriting decisions based on review and analysis of renewal policy. Make sure policy characteristics are based on company pricing and underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members, sales and management as needed to assess risks and retain business.
  • Develop and maintain strong agency relationships and work closely with Underwriters, Sales, and Management to implement agency plans and share accountability in meeting territory goals.
  • Provide support and coaching to the underwriting team and provide leadership on multiple products available to the team to quickly and effectively make risk decisions.
  • Occasionally participate in industry events and travel to meet with agencies to support relationships as needed.
  • Maintain strong product line and industry expertise and stay abreast of changes in markets.
  • Keeps current with market trends and demands.
  • Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
