This role is with Nationwide's Property and Casualty team, a Fortune 100 company. The position focuses on providing insurance solutions that balance customer needs with business goals, requiring critical thinking, analysis of complex risk, and decision-making abilities. The Excess & Surplus/Specialty (E&S/S) lines allow the company to offer insurance that other carriers may not. This is a fast-paced, collaborative, and team-oriented environment within a growing industry. The Underwriting Specialist determines risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions for assigned lines of business by analyzing information and exposures. They will also work to achieve production and loss ratio goals by reviewing claims and loss history, and by establishing and maintaining relationships with general agents. This role involves working independently with a high level of authority and judgment, determining appropriate reinsurance placement, and fostering positive business relationships with co-workers, general agents, and reinsurers. Opportunities to assist with research, development, and presentation of new products, forms, and manuals, as well as training and mentoring of other underwriters, are also part of the role.
