About the position
Argo Group is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join their team in the Eastern US. The role involves actively participating in underwriting, marketing, and processing for their private commercial line of business. The Senior Underwriter will also be responsible for developing and maintaining broker relationships, participating in client meetings, and utilizing market contacts to bring in business. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree, at least five years of underwriting experience, and strong negotiation skills. Flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to consistently produce results are also important for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and analyze new business and renewal submissions for the private commercial line of business.
- Ensure the achievement of marketing initiatives and provide consistent communication of products and services to retail and wholesale brokers.
- Develop and maintain broker relationships, both existing and new, in targeted territories to attract business opportunities.
- Actively participate in client and broker meetings.
- Develop and maintain a submission pipeline to achieve production and business mix objectives.
- Use market contacts to bring in business, gather market intelligence, and cross-sell Argo Pro and other Argo Group products.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required
- Previous insurance educational work, IIA and CPCU designations strongly preferred
- Minimum of five years underwriting experience with authority, preferably in excess and surplus lines
- Demonstrated robust and productive relationships with professional liability specialist brokers in the Central U.S. marketplace
- Demonstrated strong negotiation skills, achieving favorable outcomes in win/win negotiations
- Flexibility and ability to thrive in change
- Strong focus on execution and delivering expected results
- Excellent ability to collect, gather, manipulate, and analyze information in detail to underwrite an account profitably
- Advanced knowledge of computer programs, including Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time
