About the position
This role at Argo Group involves leading the internal economic model for the company and its subsidiaries. The main responsibilities include supporting various model uses, such as reinsurance analysis and optimization, capital allocation, and strategic opportunities. The role also involves refining and modifying the methods used in the model, improving model governance, and analyzing model results. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, numeracy, and actuarial expertise are required for this position. The successful candidate will work closely with the Group Head of Capital Management and other team members to enhance the use of the internal model within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead the internal economic model for Argo Group and its subsidiaries
- Support embedded model uses such as reinsurance analysis and optimization, capital allocation, and strategic opportunities
- Establish and develop model use throughout the group for portfolio optimization, strategic asset allocation, and underwriting strategy
- Maintain and update the group capital model throughout the year
- Present capital-related metrics and KRIs for stakeholders on a quarterly basis
- Refine and modify the methods used in the model according to business needs
- Improve model governance including documentation and processes
- Parameterization of underwriting risk across Argo US and Bermuda Insurance
- Analyze model results and provide 1st line validation
- Contribute to risk and regulatory reporting
- Develop and maintain reporting exhibits, MI, and documentation
- Manage end-to-end projects reporting to Group Head of Capital Management
- Oversee all entities and risk components
- Contribute to the design and development of model components
- Build processes and shape developing projects
- Communicate results and opportunities for model management information
- Enhance the use of the internal model within the organization through collaboration with other group functions
- Possess strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
- Analyze data and make sound expert judgments
- Implement new methodologies and manage model development using Igloo skills
- Lead and manage projects
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Have commercial awareness of the insurance market
- Understand risks facing an organization

- Possess strong (re)insurance fundamentals and market knowledge
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Finance, or Science
- Be a qualified actuary with 8+ years of experience
- Have knowledge of all core areas of an internal model
- Possess strong modeling skills
- Demonstrate proficiency in R and SQL coding (preferred)
- Have good analytical and abstract reasoning skills and strong organizational skills
- Have knowledge of management, catastrophe models, investment analysis, and PML calculations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Mathematics, Actuarial Finance, or Science.
- Qualified actuary.
- 8 years+ experience required.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- High degree of numeracy - ability to analyze data and make sound expert judgments.
- Strong Igloo skills - ability to implement new methodologies and manage model development.
- Ability to lead and manage projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong commercial awareness of the insurance market.
