This position offers the opportunity to apply and expand knowledge of underground transmission line engineering, including routing, duct bank configurations, manhole placement, and electrical principles. The role involves designing underground transmission lines for voltages up to 500kV, with responsibilities including cost analyses, development of design criteria, addressing siting and routing challenges, and the placement of manholes. The engineer will be responsible for the physical design, including duct bank layouts, trenchless designs, cable pulling calculations, and the development of drawing packages. Key tasks also include cable selection studies, determining bonding schemes, performing ampacity calculations, developing riser structure configurations and structural loading, and creating specifications for cable procurement, duct bank installation, trenchless installation, and general construction. The role requires working and coordinating with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components and directing a small project team of other engineers, designers, and drafters.
