About The Position

Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest suppliers of building materials. Heidelberg Materials North America operates over 450 locations across the U.S. and Canada with approximately 9,000 employees. This role will lead and drive surface quarry and underground mine planning, design, and sequencing to optimize safety, production, and cost efficiency. The Senior Mining Engineer will analyze geological data and develop models to support extraction strategies and long-term resource planning. They will also drive mine planning and continuous improvement initiatives across drilling, blasting, ventilation, and ground control practices for both underground and surface operations. Additionally, this role involves leading investigations into fall-of-ground and other reportable mine incidents, determining root causes, recommending mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company standards. The engineer will collaborate with operations, safety, maintenance, and environmental teams and liaise with state and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., MSHA) to support safe, efficient production and effective incident response.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of mining engineering experience, including underground operations
  • Strong understanding of underground mining engineering principles, planning, and design
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Additional PE or PG certification preferred
  • Experience with structural geology, geologic mapping, and mining software/tools preferred
