About The Position

Relativity Space is seeking a Senior Turbomachinery Engineer specializing in Turbine Development to join their propulsion team. This role is crucial for advancing the state of the art in turbine design for space applications, specifically for the Aeon-R engine systems that will power the Terran R vehicle. The engineer will collaborate closely with propulsion development and manufacturing teams, incorporating improvements into future designs. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, can drive projects to completion, and possesses the passion and tenacity to overcome challenges unique to rocket turbopumps. This multifaceted role requires working at the interfaces of design, development, and analysis of turbomachinery, ideally within a fast-paced aerospace environment with experience in completing difficult projects and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary groups.

Requirements

  • Degree in engineering or related technical field and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with turbine design, performing aerodynamic and structural analysis.
  • Experience with LCF and HCF methodologies
  • Knowledge of industry standard turbomachinery design and analysis
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of turbopump assembly procedures, including rotor balancing, interference fits, clearance checks, structural proofing, and leak checks

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with transient thermal/aerodynamic analysis
  • Experience with forced response analysis
  • Experience with in-situ mode shape/ blade deformation measurement
  • Experience overseeing turbomachinery development and/or test campaigns
  • Proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
  • Experience working in a flight development program
