Senior Turbomachinery Engineer - Designer
About The Position
This role focuses on producing and iterating conceptual designs for pump and turbine components and assemblies, aiming to develop a converged turbopump conceptual architecture ready for preliminary design review, analysis, manufacturing, and testing. The engineer will prepare drawing packages and technical reports, identify and solve technical challenges to prevent schedule or performance risks, and mentor junior engineers to improve overall design quality and technical rigor. Responsibilities include defining design requirements with seals and bearings specifications for reliable operation, supporting various testing phases (cold flow, hot fire, integrated vehicle tests) to enable rapid issue identification and design validation, and collaborating with the fabrication team on tooling and integrations to ensure first-pass build success. The role also involves developing test plans, monitoring tests, and documenting data to validate designs and inform future decisions. Other duties may be assigned, not exceeding 12% of total responsibilities.
Requirements
- Mechanical, mechatronic or Aerospace engineering degree
- 6 years design experience
- CAD software such as NX, CREO, or Solidworks
- Turbine and Pump Mean Line design
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, high-accountability environments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Organized, detail-oriented approach to work and documentation
- Ability to learn new tools, systems, or domains as needed
Nice To Haves
- Experience in high-growth, startup, or technically complex environments
- Proven track record of pump, turbine or integrated turbopump for aerospace system
Responsibilities
- Produce and rapidly iterate conceptual designs in CAD for pump and turbine components and assemblies.
- Prepare drawing packages & technical reports.
- Identify and solve technical challenges.
- Engage with more junior engineers across the team with mentorship.
- Definition of design requirements with seals and bearings specifications.
- Support the cold flow testing in the lab, hot fire testing on the test stand and integrated tests on vehicle.
- Work hand in hand with fabrication team on tooling and integrations.
- Develop test plans, monitor test activities, and document test data.
