About The Position

Working within the Trust Operations Team, the Senior Trust Officer will report to the Associate Vice-President, Trust Operations. This role is responsible for managing a book of estate and trust accounts, acting as a role model to Trust Officers and Trust Administrators, and ensuring the ongoing delivery of premium service to partners and their clients. The position also involves building and maintaining strong relationships with internal RJL and external COI partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of estate and trust industry experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of estates, trusts, and powers of attorney for property laws.
  • Possession of a university degree or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intra-provincial travel may occasionally be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing estate, trust, and power of attorney accounts is highly desirable and considered an asset.
  • Experience working with HNW clients and their wealth advisors.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills to identify and resolve diverse, complex, and ambiguous issues in a timely and practical manner.
  • Membership with the Society of Estate & Trust Practitioners (STEP), TEP designation.

Responsibilities

  • Build strategic relationships with COIs (lawyers, accountants, financial advisors) to enhance their knowledge and willingness to collaborate with the trust business for the benefit of HNW clients.
  • Act in the best interest of clients by providing appropriate service and guidance on all aspects of account (fiduciary and agent) administration.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and professional administration of complex estate, trust, and power of attorney accounts, as well as fee-based estate, trustee, and power of attorney support services.
  • Properly exercise discretion afforded in will, trust agreement, or power of attorney documents for clients where ST has been granted authority.
  • Manage account-owned corporations, including director’s resolutions, shareholders’ meetings, and coordinating financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure adherence to ST policy and procedure, and review/approve all new business according to policy.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Operations, Legal, and other departments to resolve system, administrative, risk management, and legal issues related to account administration.
  • Participate in audit activities, including business line oversight, internal audit, and regulatory audits/examinations.
  • Participate in the review and discussion of discretionary decisions on behalf of ST.
  • Participate in the creation, modification, and implementation of policy and procedures.
