About The Position

Apex Companies is a rapidly growing consulting and engineering firm seeking a Senior Transportation Project Engineer for a hybrid role in their Quincy or Woburn, MA office. This position will be responsible for the technical supervision of complex transportation projects, ensuring adherence to contractual scope, budget, and schedule. Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or other related Engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineering License, or working towards licensure within one year, in a State(s) where Apex does work or ability to obtain same by reciprocity
  • 5+ years of roadway design experience
  • Strong writing skills to prepare technical memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work
  • AutoCAD experience is required
  • Valid US driver's license and clean driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of MassDOT plan set requirements and the MassDOT design process is a plus
  • Complete Streets experience is a strong plus

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Technical Lead for the transportation components of more complex projects
  • Responsible for the technical coordination among other design disciplines and subconsultants
  • Leads the development of 3D roadway design models using AutoCAD Civil3D in accordance with MassDOT standards and workflows
  • Oversees or prepares plan sets, special provisions, and cost estimates for roadway design projects
  • Assists Project Managers in planning, coordination, and execution of projects, complying with schedules and budgets
  • Develops technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals on large-scale or complex projects
  • Develops technical solutions for complex roadway projects by applying engineering knowledge and skills
  • Maintains positive relationships with clients
  • Participates in developing the technical approach for proposals
  • Supervises and trains less experienced staff, providing guidance and mentorship
  • Manages a direct report, including workload management, approving timesheets and expense reports, and guiding career path development
  • Maintains quality control within the department by reviewing designs, calculations, and assumptions
  • Prepares for and performs oral presentations to the public, municipal boards, and clients regarding project deliverables, and to external associations and at professional conferences
