About The Position

Apex Companies is a rapidly growing engineering and environmental consulting firm seeking a motivated Senior Project Engineer for its Transportation Practice. This hybrid role, based in Providence, RI, will focus on the technical supervision of complex transportation projects, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and schedule. Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering field
  • 5+ years of roadway design experience
  • Professional Engineering License, or working towards licensure within one year, in a State(s) where Apex does work or ability to obtain same by reciprocity
  • Strong writing skills to prepare technical memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work.
  • Valid US driver's license and clean driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of RIDOT plan set requirements and the RIDOT design process a plus

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Technical Lead for the transportation components of more complex projects
  • Responsible for the technical coordination among other design disciplines and subconsultants
  • Leads the development of 3D roadway design models using AutoCAD Civil3D in accordance with RIDOT standards and workflows
  • Oversees or prepares plan sets, special provisions, and cost estimates for roadway design projects
  • Assists Project Managers in planning, coordination, and execution of projects
  • Assists Project Managers in complying with assigned project schedules and budget by actively reporting on project progress and identifying additional work outside the contractual scope
  • Assists Project Managers in developing technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals on large-scale or more complex projects
  • Develops technical solutions for complex roadway projects by applying engineering knowledge and skills
  • Maintains positive relationships with clients
  • Participates in developing the technical approach for proposals
  • Supervises and trains less experienced staff by providing daily guidance and checks their work and progress; serves as a positive role model and mentor for junior staff
  • Manages a direct report, including managing workload management, approving timesheets and expense reports, and guiding career path development
  • Maintains quality control within the department by reviewing designs, calculations, and assumptions on projects
  • Prepares for and performs oral presentations to the public, municipal boards, and clients regarding project deliverables, and to external associations and at professional conferences
