About The Position

AtkinsRéalis seeks a Senior Transportation Planner or Engineer in Denver, Colorado, to help expand its transportation planning expertise. The role supports high-profile projects for local municipalities, state DOTs, and federal clients in Colorado and nationally. The successful candidate leads technical elements of transportation planning and traffic engineering studies, including program support, corridor and safety studies, operational analyses, and large-scale transportation system analyses. The position shapes study approaches, coordinates technical work across multidisciplinary teams, and supports planning, environmental, and transportation investment decisions. Depending on project needs, the candidate may serve as a technical lead, task lead, deputy project manager, or project manager. The role involves conducting or overseeing complex transportation analyses and translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations for clients, agencies, stakeholders, and project teams. The candidate will support analyses of transportation system performance, traffic operations, travel demand, multimodal mobility, safety, and future transportation needs. Traffic microsimulation experience is desired, including knowledge of modeling methodologies, assumptions, calibration, validation, and interpretation. TransModeler experience is preferred; expertise with comparable platforms such as VISSIM or Aimsun is also considered. Familiarity with FHWA processes, alternatives analysis, and transportation studies supporting NEPA documentation is preferred but not required. The role may also involve mentoring junior staff, project management, proposal development, business development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
