About The Position

Our Canada West Civil Infrastructure Group is looking for a Senior Transportation Engineer to join our growing Canadian Operations. This position can be based in Calgary or Edmonton and will play a key part in growing and delivering our roadway practice across Western Canada. Our Transportation team engages in projects of varying sizes and scope, working with federal, provincial and municipal clients and other partners. Our team provides integrated professional services throughout the full project lifecycle from initial policy and business case advice, through concept and detailed design, inspection, and construction administration. Areas of practice for our transportation team include roads, bridges, rail and transit, transportation planning and ports. This role will be focused on our roadway practice. Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of 10+ years’ experience working in transportation in Western Canada
  • Professional Engineer registered or eligible for registration in Alberta. Registration in British Columbia would be considered an asset
  • Experience using technical standards including TAC Geometric Design Guidelines and TEC’s Highway Geometric Design Guide
  • Experience with design reports, drawings, tender preparation, specifications, cost estimates, construction staging and traffic accommodation
  • Strong technical background with experience managing multidisciplinary projects and teams, including setting project objectives, reviewing deliverables, providing design direction, and managing schedule, budget, and risk
  • Agile self-starter with a proactive, strategic, and creative approach to problem solving
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to work under conflicting responsibilities, meet required deadlines, and follow processes and procedures
  • Deliver work to a high standard and quality, following QA/QC standards and practices

Nice To Haves

  • Construction administration experience is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Function as project manager or design manager on projects for public, private, or contractor partners. Projects will vary in size, scope and delivery mode, including traditional design-bid-build, design-build, progressive design-build, and other alternative delivery models
  • Provide technical Support for roadway and highway projects from concept design through detailed design and construction
  • Oversee design development and timely preparation of engineering drawings, specifications and tender documents, managing multiple deliverables
  • Conduct site visits as required
  • Develop and/or implement QA/QC processes for project work, ensuring applicable standards are followed
  • Champion project delivery best practices, quality and safety in your day-to-day work
  • Engage in work sharing initiatives across GHD’s global team
  • Provide thought leadership, subject matter expertise and mentorship
  • Support the Civil Infrastructure leadership team in winning through: Client development and engagement, Participating in Go/No-Go decisions for potential opportunities, Acting as an ambassador for the GHD brand, Preparing effective proposals seeking targeted project opportunities and strategic growth clients
