About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Senior Roadway Designer with advanced roadway and geometric design experience for projects related to municipal roadway, MTO highway, and transit within the Greater Toronto Area. This role is part of the Mobility Global Business Area, which partners with clients globally to design thriving and connected cities and communities. The team focuses on designing connected, sustainable solutions that integrate infrastructure with new technologies to optimize the mobility of people and goods, addressing trends like climate change, urbanization, and digitization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • 8+ years of related experience designing municipal and highway roadway infrastructure at increasing levels of responsibility, preferably with Ontario Municipal Road authorities.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Open Roads Design is required.
  • Knowledge in the application of specialized traffic assessment software (Synchro, AutoTurn, etc.).
  • Experience includes applying and interpreting related legislation and technical documentation including the ITE Trip Generation Manual, TAC Geometric Design Guide, the Ontario Traffic Manuals, and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage concurrent priorities.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Task oriented with excellent interpersonal skills that focus on meeting customer requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and high-quality work with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in diverse groups of project team members and clients.

  • Registration as P.Eng or C.E.T will be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or assist with analysis and design efforts in geometric roadway design and related transportation engineering from feasibility to IFC.
  • Design urban and rural roadway alignments (horizontal/vertical), cross sections, and corridor layouts.
  • Perform intersection and roundabout conceptual & detailed design, including sight distance, channelization, auxiliary lanes, and access management.
  • Integrate active transportation (cycling and pedestrian facilities) within new and retrofit corridors.
  • Review and supervise the work of junior team members.
  • Review project documents prior to submittal, checking for technical accuracy.
  • Assist with transportation group project management.
  • Make a positive contribution to the overall team culture and environment.
  • Work with other engineering groups/disciplines and technical specialists to develop full design packages.
  • Prepare and maintain client communications.
  • Prepare presentations.
