About The Position

As a Senior Engineer on our Transmission Planning team, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable delivery of energy to our customers—today and into the future. In this role, you will assess how electricity flows across our system, support compliance with Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS), and contribute to planning efforts that enable sustainable growth across the communities we serve. This includes leading system assessments, identifying opportunities to strengthen the network, and supporting plans that address evolving energy needs such as new developments and increasing demand. Working closely with operations and partner teams, you will help maintain dependable service while contributing to decisions that shape the long-term direction of our energy system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized program
  • Minimum Eight (8) years of engineering experience with experience working with an electrical power transmission and analysis such as PSSE
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and/or currently registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC)

Responsibilities

  • Creates the Annual Power Flow and Transient Stability Analysis report to demonstrate compliance with MRS standards
  • Develops and presents recommendation that aligns with FortisBC’s vision of providing safe, reliable energy delivery at the lowest reasonable cost to our customers
  • Provides subject matter expertise on TPL MRS standards while performing transmission planning studies, including system impact studies for large load and generation interconnections.
  • Develops, Maintains and updates power flow and transient stability models internally and for WECC Coordinating with WECC and BC Hydro to exchange required data and support regional reliability efforts.
  • Represents FortisBC in industry forums and committees (WECC RAC subcommittees and NATF) to contribute to planning, modelling practices, and reliability assessments.
  • Prepares and supports long-term planning activities, including 5-year and 20-year capital plans, load forecasting, EV load modelling, and long-term resource planning and regulatory processes.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to identify transmission project needs and prioritizing projects for inclusion in near- and long-term capital plans
