Senior Transmission Electrical Estimator

Turner & TownsendToronto, ON
CA$95,000 - CA$145,000Hybrid

About The Position

As a Senior Electrical Estimator, you will be involved in demonstrating extensive knowledge of transmission, including overhead and underground HV systems, towers/poles, stringing, sagging, tensioning, insulators, OPGW, fiber optics, and line energization. You will apply in-depth expertise in substations and switchyards, covering transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, bus works, grounding grids, and yard works. You will also possess sound knowledge of Protection, Control, Relay and SCADA systems, and understand mid- and low-voltage electrical components. You will interpret electrical drawings and specifications to create project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and define scope for estimating exercises. You will perform quantity take-offs and develop bills of materials for all electrical components and equipment. You will prepare cost estimates across all classification levels and stage gates of the pre-construction phase, from conceptual sketches (Class 5) through 30% design (Class 3) to 100% detailed design (Class 1). You will develop conceptual order-of-magnitude estimates using benchmark data, parametric metrics, and preliminary design information to support client funding and feasibility decisions. You will develop detailed bottoms-up estimates, producing complete labor, equipment, and material cost breakdowns from detailed design packages. You will utilize various estimating methodologies, including parametric and deterministic approaches, with strong experience in crew cost methods and creating assemblies. You will develop complete estimating documentation, including Basis of Estimate (BoE), estimate narratives, and final estimate reports. You will develop and maintain historical cost databases, documenting cost information from completed projects and updating resource libraries within estimating software. You will communicate effectively with clients to clarify project requirements, prepare RFIs, incorporate feedback, and ensure accurate final submissions. You will collaborate closely with the lead estimator, ensuring adherence to deadlines and T&T standard templates while preparing the estimate narrative and organizing the transfer of electrical estimates into the master estimate. You will be proficiently use takeoff software (Bluebeam, Cost X, On-Screen Takeoff) and estimating platforms such as InEight (Hard Dollar), Heavy Bid, or Sage. You will export and analyze estimate data in Excel, leveraging advanced functions and Pivot Tables for reporting.

  • 5–8 years of experience in cost estimating for transmission line and substation projects across pre- and post-contract phases.
  • Proficiently use takeoff software (Bluebeam, Cost X, On-Screen Takeoff) and estimating platforms such as InEight (Hard Dollar), Heavy Bid, or Sage.
  • Export and analyze estimate data in Excel, leveraging advanced functions and Pivot Tables for reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • 3–5 years of experience with electrical contractors is an asset.
  • PQS and/or P.Eng designation is considered a strong asset.
