About The Position

VHB is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our growing Transportation Systems group in Watertown, MA. This role is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer with a strong background in traffic analysis and traffic design, including signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, roundabouts, temporary traffic control plan development in accordance with MUTCD and AASHTO design guidelines. Additional work may include construction support and field operations of traditional and advanced traffic signals. Also, opportunities to collaborate on transportation planning, safety, and multimodal projects. Requirements

  • 5-8 years of professional transportation/traffic design engineering experience required, depending on level of education
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • Proficiency in Synchro preferred
  • PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and within a team of professionals to develop design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of public and private transportation projects
  • Develop traffic plans such as signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, roundabouts, temporary traffic control plans, etc. in accordance with MUTCD and AASHTO design guidelines
  • Develop, analyze and evaluate traffic signal operations using tools such as Synchro
  • Develop recommendations for traffic operational improvements, including intersection control evaluations, crash analyses, and traffic signal warrant analyses
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate traffic operations with broader transportation planning, safety, and multimodal design solutions
  • Attend meetings with transportation agencies
  • Perform engineering field work as needed
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports
  • Prepare and participate in technical presentations
  • Perform technical task management as needed
  • Perform QAQC of the junior engineer work
  • Guide and mentor junior team members
