As a Senior Traffic Engineer at Toole Design, you’ll help shape safer, more connected communities by leading and collaborating on a wide variety of multimodal transportation projects. Working with planners, engineers, and designers, you’ll develop creative solutions for complex challenges, from urban streetscapes and roadway improvements to trail crossings, roundabouts, parking studies, complete streets and multimodal traffic analyses. You’ll lead a project team that will use tools like Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, MicroStation, and AutoCAD to create concept plans, feasibility studies, and construction documents, while helping deliver innovative designs that balance safety, mobility, and community needs. Along the way, you’ll mentor colleagues, share your expertise with clients, contribute to business development efforts, and work with a talented, close-knit team that is passionate about improving the places where people walk, bike, roll, and travel. Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, or ability to obtain within six months
  • 10+ years of transportation engineering experience, with project or task management experience
  • Excellence in client service
  • Basic understanding of roadway design principles, MUTCD standards, MassDOT standards
  • Strong knowledge of signal timing and phasing best practices and modeling them in Synchro software.
  • Basic understanding of traffic signal design
  • Interest in multimodal design and measures of effectiveness for all roadway users

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Replica, Highway Capacity Software, SIDRA, or VISSIM
  • Experience in Signal Design, TSP, or ITS
  • Strong presentation and pursuit/interview skills
  • Experience or interest in supervising direct staff
  • PTOE or RSP certification
  • Familiarity with the Highway Safety Manual and Crash Modification Factors
  • Established relationships within the New England transportation market, including DOTs, municipalities, and consulting partners or involvement in organizations like ITE, ACEC, ASHE, etc.
