About The Position

Flare is seeking a Senior Threat Researcher specializing in AI and Autonomous Cybercrime. This role is responsible for tracking the misuse of AI systems in the cybercrime ecosystem, conducting novel research into offensive AI applications, and presenting findings to industry groups and customers. The position offers significant autonomy, requiring the individual to independently identify and resolve problems. Occasional after-hours work may be necessary to address rapidly evolving threats.

Requirements

  • Experience working with cybercrime data and in fast-moving research organizations.
  • Hands-on technical depth in the cybercrime ecosystem (stealer logs, credential/identity threats, underground forums/markets, malware, C2, actors, and infrastructure).
  • 3+ years of experience in law enforcement, intelligence, or security roles.
  • Track record of original research and a public footprint (published work, conference presentations, media citations).
  • Threat intelligence experience from a cybersecurity vendor, government cyber, or established independent research.
  • Values feedback, embraces radical candor, and is motivated to continually improve.
  • Comfortable with structured processes but thrives in the ambiguity of a startup.
  • High bar for defensible, first-to-market work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leveraging AI for detection and classification work.
  • History of working closely with product, marketing, or customer success to bring threat insights into strategy.
  • Deep threat intelligence or cybercrime experience.
  • Software Engineering or DevOps experience.

Responsibilities

  • Track the misuse of AI systems using Flare's cybercrime intelligence archive.
  • Serve as Flare's primary subject matter expert for customer inquiries regarding threat actor use of AI.
  • Identify emerging threats and develop briefings, research, and presentations on AI-enabled cybercrime and autonomous systems.
  • Partner with sales and customer-facing teams to advise clients on AI-related threats, risks, and defenses.
  • Deliver regular threat briefings on the evolving misuse of AI by cybercriminals.
  • Produce original research on topics including autonomous AI systems in cybercrime, AI and identity threats, AI use in dark web/Telegram, and emerging AI-driven attack chains.
  • Present research at industry conferences, ISAC meetings, customer events, and executive briefings, translating technical findings into business risk.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales to ensure research drives thought leadership and pipeline growth.
  • Represent Flare at industry events through speaking engagements and customer meetings.
