Job Summary: Caterpillar’s IDES Division is looking for a Senior Test & Validation Engineer – Electrification to lead validation across multiple new product development and new technology investigation projects. The successful candidate will own validation planning and execution for both new product introduction (NPI) and in-production product improvement projects, from defining what needs to be validated through coordinating testing with internal and external labs. The role combines technical coordination, project execution, vendor management, and ownership of safe validation practices to ensure reliable, safe, and effective testing of innovative energy and powertrain solutions.

Requirements

Experience in leading projects, working with internal and external test facilities, coordinating contractors and parts procurement
Troubleshooting hardware/software, hands on experience
Experience with translating requirements to test plans, project leadership, managing multiple projects
Bachelor’s degree in accredited Engineering field, Mechanical or Electrical
Extensive knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Coordinates execution of test plans, including resources, strategy, schedules, processes and tools.
Collaborates with design team to ensure testing considerations are incorporated into system design.
Recommends tools and techniques for automating, simplifying and enhancing product testing.
Compares and contrasts alternative testing methodologies and tools.
Matches testing methodology and tools to product being tested; develops test scenarios and scripts.
Estimates time, effort and resources required for thorough testing.
Extensive knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Advises others on the assessment and provision of all technical solutions.
Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.

Responsibilities

Plan, lead and execute validation projects
Determine how, what and when to execute validation projects with other teams/labs
Collaborate with system and subsystem team members, as well as internal and external test facilities, to complete validation and certifications
Coordinate the execution of the FMEA and Validation Planning Workshop process
Maintain and regularly report out on product validation schedule and status to validation leadership
Contribute to the analysis of test failure discoveries and facilitate the verification of NPI issue resolution
Build relationships and leverage business unit and corporate validation experts
