About The Position

The Senior Test Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining HMTF’s data acquisition system (DAS) and test instrumentation for sled and subsystem testing. This role supports measurement planning, sensor installation, calibration, data capture, and readiness activities to ensure high‑quality test data across all programs. Collins Aerospace Hurricane Mesa Test Facility (HMTF) is a unique R&D test site that validates ejection seat systems and subsystems using a supersonic rocket sled track. Testing spans sled‑track events with aircraft-representative bodies and anthropometric manikins from zero airspeed/altitude up to and beyond the speed of sound, along with a broad spectrum of subsystem and energetic component tests.

Requirements

  • Hands‑on experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with sensor installation and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in technical test environments.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DAS platforms (DTS, NI, DEWESoft, EME, etc.).
  • Experience in aerospace/defense testing or energetic environments.
  • Experience building sensor mounts or wiring harnesses.
  • Familiarity with high‑speed cameras or complementary test‑data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, operate, and verify the facility’s DAS for sled and subsystem tests.
  • Install, maintain, and calibrate sensors including load cells, accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, and wiring.
  • Perform instrumentation functional checks, troubleshooting, and data‑quality validation.
  • Manage instrumentation documentation including calibration records and channel maps.
  • Collaborate with test engineers on measurement plans and integration into sled and fixture hardware.
  • Support general test‑site operations and safe field work around propulsion and energetic systems.
