About The Position

Stryker’s Instruments Test Lab is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to perform development, verification, and lifecycle testing on the next generation of medical devices. As a member of the Test Lab Team, you will be a key part of bringing the next generation of cutting-edge medical technology to market. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and conducting performance and lifecycle testing on assigned projects and products. You will act as the testing representative and primary technical point of contact between the Test Lab and the Product Development team responsible for the commercialization of equipment. This position will be key to determining test protocols, screening design concepts, developing new test methodologies, coordinating testing with other lab equipment, and working towards delivering on project due dates. This position may also coordinate other lab staff to keep the testing moving through 2nd and 3rd shift.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required with a B.S.
  • Basic understanding of testing, testing equipment, good laboratory practices, and department metrics.
  • Proficient use of common laboratory test equipment is required.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree.
  • Preference for Masters/PhD.
  • Mechanical/electrical/software problem-solving skills are desired.
  • Comfortable and confident speaking in front of small to medium groups of people.
  • Test Lab/ Test Systems experience preferred.
  • Exercise discretion and independence when applying professional expertise.
  • Able to manage time and projects proactively, complete documentation accurately and bring tasks through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Able to analyze and correct complex processes and/or product issues using independent judgment.
  • Medical Device experience in a highly regulated environment a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and conducting performance and lifecycle testing on assigned projects and products.
  • Acting as the testing representative and primary technical point of contact between the Test Lab and the Product Development team.
  • Determining test protocols, screening design concepts, developing new test methodologies, and coordinating testing with other lab equipment.
  • Assisting project teams with insightful feedback, hands-on development of high-quality test methodologies, and proactive planning to ensure reliable product testing.
  • Ensuring team's testing needs are well thought out and proactively involving all necessary supporting groups before testing such as Metrology, Quality, CAE, and Test Operations.
  • Assisting design groups and internal customers from the start of research all the way to final verification testing.
  • Selecting test equipment, developing test methods, creating customized test fixtures, setting up test systems, and executing testing.
  • Designing, developing, and implementing high-quality test systems customized to the product being tested.
  • Demonstrating a strong working knowledge of good laboratory practices, testing standards, procedures, statistical knowledge, and laboratory safety practices.
  • Communicating proactively and effectively to act as the key contact between stakeholders and the lab.
  • Assisting with the formulation of test guidelines and procedures and may recommend revisions of specifications where necessary.
  • Evaluating, recommending, and maintaining engineering-related test systems.
  • Assisting Test Lab management with priorities, scheduling, and technician training for all work related to their allocated projects.
