About The Position

The Senior Test Engineer provides electrical test engineering support involving automation, assembly, maintenance, and data collection. The role develops test routines, software, and systems to verify that products meet customer specifications, and is responsible for production, costing, development, support, training, and test-related automation on a corporate scale. The position leads the development and improvement of test systems and operating systems, including next-generation hardware and software, system documentation, vendor coordination, and equipment specifications. It coordinates new-product introduction projects, customer requirements, test-process transitions between facilities, and cross-functional manufacturing engineering work. The role also provides technical expertise on production feedback, test malfunctions, component verification, capacity constraints, design for testability, and process development. It develops test strategies and plans, supports training across manufacturing and test teams, and mentors and supervises other engineers. The position reports to the Test Engineering Manager. This is a Spokane Valley, Washington-based role with a stated salary range of $85,000–$90,000. The work takes place in a fast-paced, time-pressured environment requiring accuracy and frequent multitasking. The normal setting is a quiet open-cubicle office, though some areas may be louder. The employee regularly moves throughout the office building and communicates with customers, colleagues, and technical audiences.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or computer science; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Four or more years of relevant experience in test engineering, firmware development, C and C++ programming, electronic circuits, and system design.
Ability to program with LabVIEW.
Ability to operate and knowledge of MFG PRO or similar manufacturing software.
Ability to interpret test output to troubleshoot defects; familiarity with advanced programming languages, database generation, network theory, and high-level component design and integration.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and statistical methods, including frequency distributions, test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, identify critical parameters, and develop process controls.
Ability to interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to read and understand PCA assembly drawings and technical notes.
Demonstrated technical writing ability and effective oral and written communication with management and technical staff.
Ability to present training to small and large technical audiences.
Strong organization and prioritization skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people.
Knowledge of standard office equipment and familiarity with commonly used CAD, email, Internet, word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and materials with poise, tact, and diplomacy.
Ability to write and understand routine reports, follow oral and written instructions, and speak effectively.
Regular ability to sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects; talk, hear, and see. Occasional ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or reach with hands and arms.

Nice To Haves

Four or more years of relevant test engineering experience in the manufacturing industry.
Lean manufacturing experience.
Familiarity with IPC 610 guidelines.
Experience in the Contract Manufacturing and EMS industry, particularly supporting an offshore manufacturing facility.
Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish, Vietnamese, and/or Chinese.

Responsibilities

Perform the duties of a Test Engineer and provide electrical test engineering support for automation, assembly, maintenance, and data collection.
Work with customers early in product development to ensure products are diagnosable and testable.
Lead development and improvement of test systems, operating systems, peripheral enhancements, and system documentation.
Lead development of next-generation test systems and operating systems; design and develop high-level software and hardware for those systems.
Coordinate system designs with outside vendors and develop specifications for contracted equipment builds.
Coordinate projects and implementation plans for new product introduction, including customer designs and requirements.
Lead and mentor engineers and technicians supporting new development projects.
Transition test process plans between facilities for new products.
Advise test, manufacturing, product, and quality engineers on production feedback and support issues.
Develop quote information, pricing, test plans, automation methods, and process development for new products.
Provide expertise in root-cause analysis of test malfunctions and component verification.
Establish and document corporate test strategies and a five-year plan.
Ensure test plans comply with customer specifications and recommend solutions for new-product capacity issues and constraints.
Determine design-for-testability requirements and provide process ownership through leadership of assigned processes.
Develop and lead manufacturing engineering projects; manage schedules, budgets, and specifications.
Support training and development of manufacturing and test engineers and manufacturing teams at remote sites.
Lead a cross-functional manufacturing engineering team for new product introduction and represent manufacturing and test engineering on program teams.
Mentor and supervise the work of other engineers.
Attend meetings and interface with customers and outside test suppliers on highly technical issues as needed.
Promote teamwork, help train and guide other employees, maintain a clean and safe work area, support product and service quality, and apply appropriate quality-improvement processes.
Perform other duties as assigned to support corporate and departmental objectives.
