About The Position

Leidos is hiring a Senior Test Engineer in its Intelligence Sector's Cyber & Analytics Business Area (CABA). The position focuses on designing, building, and maintaining automated test solutions for REST APIs and web-based user interfaces. It requires hands-on experience with Linux command-line tools, Python automation, Docker or Podman, and CI/CD integration using Jenkins and GitLab. The engineer will also help plan and carry out the migration of the in-house automation framework from legacy Robot Framework implementations to a newer platform. The role includes developing automated test suites and maintaining a scalable test harness covering execution, reporting, data setup and teardown, and CI/CD integration. The engineer will contribute to reliable test execution across developer environments and CI pipelines, improve test reporting and stability, and collaborate with engineering and QA stakeholders on framework improvements and release needs. The position requires an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field and 12 or more years of related experience. Candidates without a bachelor's degree require additional years of experience and will be considered case by case.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Strong Linux and Bash shell scripting experience, including command-line work and processing or reporting on large data sets such as logs, test artifacts, and results.
  • Advanced experience building Python test automation, including Pytest-based frameworks and maintainable testing practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker or Podman, including building, versioning, and maintaining images for automation and CI/CD workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Jenkins and GitLab pipelines, including containerized workloads and automated test stages.
  • Experience testing REST APIs, including response validation, authentication flows, and negative or error-path testing.
  • Familiarity with Robot Framework UI automation using the Python Selenium library.
  • Understanding of test automation harness and framework architecture for UI and/or API testing, including test structure, configuration, reporting, and environment management.
  • Familiarity with SQL and tools such as SQL Developer, including writing queries and using them in automated validation steps.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience planning and executing test automation framework migrations, such as from Robot Framework to Microsoft Playwright or Robot Framework AIO.
  • Experience improving CI performance, parallelization, and test execution efficiency in containerized environments.
  • Strong debugging skills across services, CI logs, containers, and test reporting outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automated test suites for back-end REST APIs and web-based user interfaces.
  • Build and maintain a scalable, reliable test automation harness, including execution, reporting, data setup and teardown, and CI/CD integration.
  • Implement and expand Python-based test automation using Pytest, including fixtures, test data strategies, and robust assertions and validation.
  • Create and maintain Docker or Podman container images for consistent automation execution across developer environments and CI pipelines.
  • Integrate automated test execution into Jenkins and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, providing repeatable runs, clear reporting, and actionable results.
  • Use Linux command-line tools and Bash scripting to locate, parse, transform, and report on logs, test output, and system data.
  • Support and extend UI automation using Robot Framework and the Python Selenium library, including improving test stability and applying best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to plan, estimate, and break down migration of the in-house test harness from legacy Robot Framework to a modern alternative such as Robot Framework AIO or Microsoft Playwright.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries using SQL Developer or similar tools, and integrate database validation into automated tests where appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot CI failures and test irregularity or volatility, improve test reliability, and contribute to continuous improvement of QA automation.
  • Produce clear, actionable test reporting and help reduce flaky tests and pipeline noise.
  • Take ownership of framework-level improvements, breaking work into deliverable increments and collaborating with engineering and QA stakeholders.
