About The Position

Reporting to the Terminal Supervisor, the Senior Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant day‑to‑day operation of the petroleum terminal. The role performs advanced operational, safety, maintenance coordination and administrative activities related to the receipt, storage and shipment of petroleum products by rail and truck. The Senior Terminal Operator provides on‑shift leadership and assumes supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Terminal Supervisor. The role also contributes to the development, review and continuous improvement of operating procedures to support regulatory compliance, asset integrity and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Professional or technical diploma in a related field, or solid hands‑on experience in terminal or petroleum operations.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in terminal or industrial operations, including product handling, inventory control, and automated systems.
  • Good working knowledge of terminal operations, safety procedures, and health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Proven ability to make the right decisions during abnormal situations or emergencies.
  • Strong operational judgment with the ability to solve problems and make decisions in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Natural ability to provide on‑shift leadership and support other operators through hands‑on coaching and training
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with supervisors, operators, contractors and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in the safe and efficient day‑to‑day operation of the terminal, including receiving, moving, storing and shipping petroleum products
  • Operate, monitor and troubleshoot terminal systems and equipment, and take quick, appropriate action when issues arise.
  • Be a safety leader by consistently applying health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Issue and manage work permits (hot work, cold work and others) to ensure all activities are performed safely.
  • Inspect work areas, lead contractor safety briefings and assess risks before work begins.
  • Keep clear, accurate records for operations, inventory, product movements and sampling activities.
  • Report incidents, accidents and near misses, and actively support investigations and corrective actions.
  • Assist with equipment preparation and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Supervise contractors on site and ensure all work is completed safely and to standard.
  • Act as a key operational user for SCADA, automation and terminal management systems and coordinate with IT and Engineering as required.
  • Contribute to terminal projects, improvements and system implementations.
  • Provide leadership on shift and step in to support supervision during absences or peak periods.
  • Support and coach terminal operators, drivers and terminal users through hands‑on guidance and training.
  • Track operational and safety results and contribute to audits and regulatory inspections.
