About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Tekla Detailer / Drafting Lead to lead structural steel detailing efforts in a fabrication environment, with direct ownership of Tekla modeling standards, detailing quality, and drafting team leadership. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for producing complex Tekla models while establishing consistent detailing practices and mentoring other detailers. The ideal candidate is an experienced Tekla professional who enjoys improving workflows, developing standards, and raising the overall quality and efficiency of the drafting department. This position will play a key role in strengthening drafting processes and supporting successful project execution.

Requirements

• 8+ years of structural steel detailing experience with advanced proficiency using Tekla Structures.
• Demonstrated experience developing or implementing Tekla modeling and detailing standards.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising a drafting or detailing team.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection practices, shop drawings, and construction documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and project specifications.
• Experience coordinating with engineers, project managers, fabrication shops, and production personnel.
• Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Candidates with general CAD or detailing experience but limited Tekla expertise will not be a strong fit.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and maintenance of Tekla detailing standards, modeling procedures, and drafting best practices.
• Produce and review detailed Tekla models, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and related project documentation.
• Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the drafting team to ensure consistent quality and productivity.
• Review construction documents, structural drawings, specifications, and design changes to develop accurate fabrication models.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, fabricators, and production teams to resolve detailing issues and maintain project schedules.
• Establish quality control procedures for Tekla models and fabrication drawings before project release.
• Identify opportunities to improve drafting workflows, modeling efficiency, and department consistency.
• Support troubleshooting of complex detailing challenges and provide technical solutions throughout project execution.
• Assist with onboarding and training new detailers on Tekla standards, modeling practices, and company procedures.
