About The Position

The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex HVAC/R systems across commercial and industrial environments. This role ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards while managing preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance and longevity. The position involves coordinating field teams, mentoring technicians, and overseeing service operations to meet business priorities. The Senior Technician also supports continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating new technologies and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance processes and service delivery. This role requires a commitment to operational excellence and adherence to company policies. The Facility Services HVAC/Refrigeration team ensures the efficient operation and maintenance of Walmart’s facilities through expert preventive care, repairs, and safety compliance. Utilizing specialized skills in HVAC systems, electrical diagnostics, and equipment upkeep, the team supports business priorities effectively. They collaborate closely with management and service providers, maintaining clear communication and integrity. Requirements

  • Extensive experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including commercial and industrial refrigeration units.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and technical guidance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
  • Proficiency in managing parts inventory, vendor relationships, and coordinating service workloads to meet business priorities.
  • Effective communication skills to document work accurately and collaborate across teams.
  • Commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement in facility services operations.
  • Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
  • Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
  • Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
  • Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
  • Manage refrigerant handling, ensuring compliance with EPA and OSHA standards.
  • Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating skill development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, maintenance logs, and compliance records.
  • Support on-call rotations to address urgent service needs promptly.
  • Manage parts inventory, vendor relationships, and service scheduling to meet business priorities.
