About The Position

The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. This role oversees preventive maintenance programs, manages refrigerant handling, and coordinates field teams to optimize system performance. The position requires collaboration across departments to implement business solutions, mentor technicians, and support critical operations through on-call responsiveness. The Senior Technician also manages parts inventory, vendor relationships, and special projects, contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence within facility services. The team supports Walmart Supercenters and Sam’s Clubs by maintaining landscapes through mowing, trimming, and related projects. They manage scheduled assignments with a focus on quality and safety compliance, coordinating resources efficiently. Team members conduct equipment inspections and adhere to safety standards, including OSHA guidelines. Effective communication and project management are essential to meet operational goals. This group plays a vital role in sustaining facility aesthetics and functionality, contributing to a well-maintained environment that supports business operations and enhances customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant systems in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
  • Ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating technician performance.
  • Proficiency in managing parts inventory, vendor relationships, and coordinating service workloads.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to support process improvements and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement in all aspects of facility services.
  • 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
  • Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
  • Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and control panels.
  • Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
  • Manage refrigerant handling, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and HVAC/R codes and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating skill development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, maintenance logs, and expense reports.
  • Support on-call rotations to address urgent service needs promptly.
  • Manage parts inventory, vendor relationships, and service scheduling to meet business priorities.
