Senior Technician - AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES / Pay Range is $33.00 to $50.00 per hour
About The Position
The Senior Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Technician is a highly skilled technical professional responsible for advanced automotive diagnostics, repairs, calibrations, and system integrations on autonomous vehicles. In addition to performing complex AV work, this role provides technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to AV technicians, ensuring best practices in fleet safety, reliability, and efficiency. The Senior AV Technician partners with engineering, operations, and safety teams to resolve escalated issues, implement technical projects, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the fleet. The Autonomous Vehicle Technician diagnoses and performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles operated by the Autonomous Vehicle Driver. This specialist will have a unique opportunity to provide high quality service on autonomous vehicles, while working with teammates in a positive atmosphere and growth environment.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as an automotive, EV, robotics, or AV technician, including leadership or mentorship responsibilities.
- ASE Master Technician, EV/Hybrid certification, or OEM factory training.
- Experience with high-voltage systems (HV safety certification a plus).
- Expert diagnostic skills with both mechanical and electrical vehicle systems.
- Hands-on experience with sensor systems (LiDAR, radar, cameras) and computer hardware.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software, scan tools, electrical testing equipment, and troubleshooting of CAN/LIN networks.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and complex engineering documentation.
- Knowledge of Linux command line and scripting for diagnostics and data analysis.
- Prior experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, advanced ADAS, or mobility technology.
- Must have tools
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, advanced diagnosis, and required repairs on electric vehicles.
- Inspecting and performing initial vehicle set up for autonomous fleet operation and testing.
- Lead complex mechanical and electrical troubleshooting for AV powertrain, braking, suspension, high-voltage, and advanced sensor systems.
- Diagnose, repair, and validate faults in CAN/LIN networks, AV computer hardware, and vehicle control modules.
- Perform root-cause analysis and resolve recurring technical issues across the fleet.
- Operating all equipment in the Service Center in a safe and productive manner, following AutoNation’s Safety Standards for the use of personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection) while working on the production floor.
- Inspecting and testing all work performed as a Quality Control (QC) measure as soon as jobs are completed.
- Keeping abreast of technical information and participating in offered training classes as appropriate.
- Understanding and following federal, state, and local regulations that affect Service Center operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA guidelines, etc.
- Gaining superior product knowledge to provide high quality repairs.
