About The Position

The Senior Technical Writer</b> will support the Texas Department of Information Resources on the IT Certification Program. This role is responsible for developing curricula, course outlines, instructional methods, training aids, manuals, and other instructional materials that integrate DIR data and prerequisite skills tied to CTCM and CTCD certifications. The candidate will consult with staff to gather accurate information and translate technical content, including descriptions of concepts, processes, and systems, into clear, user -friendly language. The position operates under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in curriculum development, technical writing, and training accessibility improvement.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing training curricula, including instructor -led courses, job aids, and videos.
  • 5 years of experience writing technical and business documents, with proficiency in standard computer applications and applicable software.
  • 5 years of experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work supporting complex business or technical subject matter.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited four -year college or university with major coursework in business administration, English, education, or a related field.
  • 4 years of knowledge in the techniques and methods of planning, organizing, and writing various types of instructional and technical materials.
  • 4 years of expert -level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with flexibility to develop training across multiple software products.
  • Experience working with a Texas state agency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop curricula, course outlines, manuals, and training materials that support the IT Certification Program and address CTCM and CTCD requirements.
  • Translate technical procurement concepts, processes, and system information into clear, user -friendly training and reference content.
  • Review training materials for accessibility, recommend improvements, and remediate identified accessibility issues.
  • Consult with staff to gather accurate information needed for the development of instructional and reference materials.
  • Design and produce a variety of training formats, including instructor -led courses, job aids, and videos.
  • Apply experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish curriculum development goals with minimal direction.
  • Ensure instructional materials reflect current IT procurement knowledge and best practices as required by DIR.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to confirm technical accuracy of content prior to finalization and distribution.
