About The Position

Electric Machinery Company, a division of WEG Electric Corp. in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is seeking a Senior Technical Support Engineer. This role provides technical support for motor, generator, control, and related WEG products, and handles warranty claims. The primary objective is to offer technical assistance to customers, collaborate with engineering, commercial, and quality teams, and resolve service requests effectively to foster strong customer relationships. The engineer will analyze field data, recommend corrective actions, and manage the inspection, analysis, and disposition of returned equipment and materials. This position involves travel to client locations for product inspection to determine warranty claims and acts as a liaison between sales, customers, users, and the factory, delivering technical information and training on EM products and services. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior staff and performing other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency to affect timely response and resolution to customer requests.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and proven ability to effectively deal with difficult customers.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including direction of technical and non-technical staff and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep multiple tasks and activities coordinated, prioritized, documented, and in motion or progress at one time.
  • Demonstrated capability for social interface with internal and external customers as required, achieving customer satisfaction excellence.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of current operating systems and software common to business applications including; SAP, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Physical ability to travel freely within manufacturing and office facilities. This requires climbing stairs and moving over, around, and about shop machinery and in-process apparatus in a safe manner.
  • Physical ability to climb a ladder, use scaffolding or catwalks to service machinery.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 25 pounds.
  • Physical ability to travel via public, commercial or personal transportation.
  • Must possess an insurable driver’s license.
  • Must possess a valid Passport or be able to obtain a Passport.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to customers, interfacing with the engineering, commercial, and quality teams as necessary.
  • Resolve service requests effectively and promote strong customer relationships.
  • Analyze field data, recommend corrective action, and write and edit service reports related to warranty work.
  • Organize and coordinate inspection, analysis, and disposition of returned equipment, parts, and material.
  • Travel to client locations to inspect products to determine warranty claims.
  • Be a liaison between the sales force, customers, users, and factory, providing technical information and assistance to sales offices, customers, and users.
  • Deliver Client training pertaining to EM products and services.
  • Mentor Junior staff.
  • Other duties may be assigned by management to meet business needs.
