About The Position

We are seeking an energetic, highly curious Senior Technical Project Manager (TPM) to manage the delivery and strategic evolution of our content authoring platforms. This person acts as a critical point of contact for project delivery, combining a software development management background with deep data literacy. Moving beyond traditional tracking, this role directly contributes to the system roadmap, shapes technical requirements, and drives technical discussions alongside engineering leads. Additionally, this role serves as the primary technical liaison with external vendors and state partners, leading discussions around system integrations, interoperability, and assessment technology standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technology-focused discipline.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in technical project management (or Master's degree with 5+ years).
  • 5+ years directly managing software engineers, executing hands-on software development, or leading technical system design.
  • 2+ years operating within data analysis, product support, or technical coordination roles.
  • Familiarity with modern data transmission protocols, RESTful APIs, webhooks, and secure data-sharing frameworks.
  • Proficient hands-on capability writing relational SQL Server scripts from scratch to analyze datasets.
  • Solid understanding of back-end application architecture, web application interactions, and automated data flows.
  • Demonstrated capability tracking large-scale engineering lifecycles from planning through deployment.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong conceptual understanding of AI foundational components (e.g., Large Language Models, generative workflows, vector search) to confidently support upcoming AI-driven platform expansions.
  • Hands-on proficiency using AI productivity tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or automated project management workflows) to accelerate technical writing and delivery metrics.
  • Direct experience configuring, testing, or launching integrations utilizing the QTI framework.
  • Strong desire to get hands dirty learning the multilayered mechanics of complex educational software applications.
  • Prior experience working in high-pressure production support, site reliability, or incident management environments.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Technical Directors and engineering leads to actively contribute to the system roadmap, assessing technical feasibility and infrastructure scaling needs of AI and non-AI software projects.
  • Facilitate and guide technical design discussions, asking critical questions to help developers hash out complex logic blockages.
  • Distill high-level business goals into detailed technical specifications and API boundary definitions.
  • Identify structural technical risks early, mitigate system constraints, and drive key technology choices.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface for external organizations, state educational agencies, and client integration teams.
  • Own technical discussions surrounding cross-platform data exchange, focusing heavily on secure integrations and standardized data pipelines.
  • Oversee the implementation of core educational data frameworks and ecosystem standards (e.g., QTI).
  • Establish clear technical data mappings and interface requirements with third-party vendors to guarantee plug-and-play platform compatibility.
  • Triage complex backend system issues by analyzing underlying data flows and systemic impacts.
  • Perform deep-dive evaluations on production failures and compile post-incident reports.
  • Write custom SQL Server scripts from scratch to extract, validate, and isolate data errors.
  • Review application and server logs to track down persistent bugs or data pipeline failures.
  • Oversee system deployments and operational maintenance windows alongside DevOps and SRE teams.
  • Partner directly with QA engineers throughout the development lifecycle to maintain execution standards.
  • Structure Confluence repositories to ensure reference materials are searchable and accurate.
