About The Position

IMAX is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead complex, multidisciplinary engineering programs across its portfolio of projection, imaging, audio, and cinema technologies. This role is responsible for driving strategic initiatives spanning new product development, technology modernization, lifecycle management, and system enhancements. The successful candidate will work across optical, electrical, mechanical, software, audio, and quality engineering teams to ensure programs are delivered effectively while balancing customer needs, technical requirements, business priorities, and resource constraints. The ideal candidate is a strong consensus builder who thrives in complex environments, can navigate competing stakeholder priorities, and helps the organization make informed decisions about where and how engineering resources are invested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent experience demonstrating the same depth of technical foundation will be considered.
  • 8+ years of experience in technical program management, engineering program management, product development, systems engineering, or related technical leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex hardware-centric programs involving multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Unfazed by multi-tasking and reprioritization exercises
  • Strong understanding of the interaction between hardware and software systems throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to influence and build consensus across cross-functional organizations.
  • Experience developing business cases, evaluating tradeoffs, and supporting investment or prioritization decisions.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify risk AND provide mitigation steps if needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complex electromechanical systems, imaging systems, audio systems, cinema technologies, industrial equipment, medical devices, aerospace systems, or other long-lifecycle technology products.
  • Experience managing technology refresh, platform modernization, component obsolescence, or lifecycle management initiatives.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, supply chain management, quality systems, field operations, and customer support organizations.
  • Experience supporting product roadmap development, portfolio planning, or engineering investment decisions.
  • PMP, PgMP, Agile, or related certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex cross-functional engineering programs from concept through development, validation, release, deployment, field adoption and long-term operational support.
  • Coordinate activities across optical, electrical, mechanical, software, audio, and quality engineering disciplines and with various stakeholder groups (e.g. Service).
  • Develop and maintain program plans, budgets, schedules, dependency maps, risk assessments, and executive-level reporting.
  • Drive accountability, issue resolution, and execution across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of “continuous improvement”.
  • Partner closely with engineering leaders to ensure alignment between technical execution and strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate technical decision-making processes by ensuring stakeholders understand tradeoffs, risks, architectural implications and program/cost/schedule impacts.
  • Lead technology projects that address refresh, modernization, and lifecycle management initiatives across IMAX’s global installed base.
  • Partner with engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and field support teams to address component obsolescence, supplier transitions, reliability improvements, and system evolution programs.
  • Coordinate complex redesign efforts required to address end-of-life components, technology shifts, and changing supply-chain dynamics.
  • Help ensure IMAX systems continue to evolve and deliver exceptional customer experiences throughout their operational lifespan.
  • Partner with the SVP Engineering and engineering leadership team to define and maintain technology roadmaps across projection, imaging, audio, and supporting platform technologies.
  • Support annual and multi-year engineering planning processes by evaluating opportunities, constraints, dependencies, and resource capacity planning.
  • Help identify and prioritize engineering investments that deliver the greatest value to IMAX and its customers.
  • Drive lifecycle planning activities that proactively address technology risks and future platform needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Support, Commercial, and Executive teams to develop business cases for engineering initiatives.
  • Assess customer impact, strategic value, operational benefits, technical risk, lifecycle implications, and resource requirements for proposed programs.
  • Facilitate objective prioritization discussions among stakeholders with competing requirements and limited engineering capacity.
  • Help ensure engineering investments align with IMAX’s strategic objectives and deliver measurable business value.
  • Build alignment among stakeholders with diverse objectives and competing priorities.
  • Facilitate complex tradeoff discussions involving technical, operational, commercial, customer, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Engineering leadership and key business stakeholders.
  • Communicate program status, risks, recommendations, and strategic implications to senior leadership.
  • Drive decisions and achieve forward progress in situations where requirements, priorities, or stakeholder perspectives may conflict.

  • The position offers a salary range of $100,847.00 - $126,059.00 per year.
